10 Breast Changes You Can Expect During Pregnancy

One bra that fit perfectly a few weeks back suddenly feels tighter. You also notice your breasts, feeling heavier, fuller, and more sensitive as if almost overnight. If it does sound familiar, what’s really happening is part of your pregnancy transformations. Here’s what really happens beneath the surface:

1. Mild to Severe Tenderness and Soreness that can show science as early as six weeks caused by the increase in hormonal sensitivity and blood flow in that region.
2. Increase in breast size is also one of the earliest signs of pregnancies caused due to the development of milk, producing glands, and milk ducts.
3. Increase in firmness, heaviness, and fullness as glandular tissues expand for production of milk and becomes denser as the production system grows.
4. Darkening and enlargement of the nipple or Areolas that helps newborns easily locate it for feeding after birth.
5. Increased visibility of veins, appearing as bluish or purple lines caused due to increase in blood flow to the breast. 
6. Itching and flakiness from skin expansion is a common occurrence as your breast grows in size due to the increase in hormone progesterone, estrogene, and prolactin. 
7. Increased breast sensitivity around 4 to 6 weeks of pregnancy caused by increase in hormones, namely, estrogen, and progesterone, increased blood flow, and tissue growth.
8. Stretch marks are natural due to rapid growth of the breasts during pregnancy. They start appearing as red, pink or purple lines, but fit to a white Cullah after delivery.
9. Colostrum leaking particularly in the third trimester as a thick, yellowish fluid, also known as pre-milk, signaling the body that it is ready for breast-feeding. 
10. Prominent Montgomery’s gland or small bumps around the nipple become a bit raised that secretes oil to protect the nipple.
