Pregnancy Photoshoot Tips: How to Plan a Beautiful Maternity Photoshoot

During pregnancy, there are many small moments that you don't give much thought to since you are so focused on the baby. These are all things that have the potential to become lovely memories in the future: your growing tummy, the first little baby clothes you buy, your husband speaking to the baby, or the thrill of waiting to see your little one.

To preserve such memories, a pregnancy photoshoot is one of the greatest ways to do it. However, the planning of a single photoshoot may also raise a lot of questions. At what time do you plan to do your photoshoot? What should I wear? Where may I hire the correct photographer?

It is not necessary to have a wonderful body, expensive clothes, or a fancy location in order to take beautiful maternity photos. It is possible that the entire photoshoot might be simplified with just a little bit of careful planning. To help you get ready for a pregnant photoshoot, here are some helpful tips to keep in mind.

When Should You Take Maternity Photos?

The majority of women choose to have their maternity photoshoot made around the third trimester when the baby bump is noticeable. Many moms find 28 to 34 weeks a comfortable time, although your optimal timing may be different.

If you wait too long you might start to feel more uncomfortable. You may also have a harder time standing, walking or changing clothes during the session. However, if you take the photos too early your bump may not look as noticeable as you would like.

Choosing a Correct Photographer for Shoot

Just because a photographer takes gorgeous photos doesn’t mean they’re the perfect photographer for a pregnancy shoot. Maternity photoshoot requires a little more care. You may need to sit down between poses, take a break or not do some positions.

Before you book, check out the photographer’s previous maternity work. Look at how natural the photos look and if you like the way they show off the pregnancy bump. It is also helpful to ask a few simple questions:

  1. How long does the photoshoot usually take?

  2. How many outfits can I change?

  3. Do you provide maternity dresses?

  4. Can my partner or children join?

  5. Are outdoor and indoor locations available?

  6. When will I receive the edited photos?

  7. How many final photos are included?

  8. Are prints included or only digital photographs?

  9. What happens if I need to reschedule?

Knowing these answers to above questions can prevent surprises later.

Look at the Photographer's Full Style

Don't pick a photographer solely on one gorgeous picture. If you can, try to go through a few albums from the previous works.

Some photographers like bright and natural photos. Some like dark backgrounds, dramatic lighting, or excessive editing. Imagine what you would like to see when you look back at your images years from now.

If you like basic and natural photographs, find someone who already has that style in their portfolio. Usually easier than getting a photographer to change their work style totally.

Choose Your Dresses Before the Shoot

It is not a good idea to wait until the day of the shoot to decide what it is you will wear. In the five or six days before the photoshoot, try on your dresses.

Dresses has to be comfortable enough to stand, sit, and walk around in. Suitable options include long dresses, flowing gowns, sarees. If you want to show off your bump, you could also choose to wear clothing that is a little more revealing. If you are unsure? You should bring two different dresses.

Wear Clothes That Are Easy to Change

Changing clothes during pregnancy is not always easy.  Very complex dresses, tight dresses, or pregnancy photoshoot dresses with complex fastenings can take extra time and energy.

Choose clothing that you can change into without too much effort.  If you are using a studio for a photoshoot, ask whether they have a private changing place.

Most Importantly, Enjoy the Experience

Your maternity photoshoot doesn’t have to be perfect.

The wind might blow your hair. Your child may not like to stand still. You may need numerous breaks.

That is all part of the experience.

So dress in comfort, bring your loved ones, take a break when you need to and let yourself to enjoy the day.
